Along with yesterday’s post about Cinque Terre, Italy, I thought I would add some pictures from a short day trip we took in the area, just because they were too pretty not to share!
Our destination was Portofino, A fishing village turned luxury seaside town on the Italian Riviera. To get there from Cinque Terre, we took a short train ride which landed us first in Santa Margharita Ligure, where we caught a shuttle bus to Portofino. The funny thing is, we ended up loving Santa Margharita much more! Santa Margharita had the old-world charm but was bigger, had a beautiful harbor and some striking estates and churches marvel at. They also had THE best gelato joint, Simonietti!
When we arrived in Portofino, its harbor was gorgeous as promised, but the tiny town itself was expensive and best mostly for walking a few trails above the harbor and taking in the view. If the weather had been warmer there were definitely a few semi-secret swimming spots to be found (some possibly used by many of the famed celebrity visitors, or perhaps where Rex Harrison supposedly knocked his oscar into the sea) and I could imagine boating around the area in the sun would be strikingly beautiful as well.
Overall, the beauty of the views were definitely worth the trip. There is a reason why this area in Italy is supposed to be one of the most romantic places in the world. It definitely made us catch our breath a time or two. :)
Below is a mix of photos from both of these lovely towns. Enjoy!
